Community Activities

“See ye no strangers; rather see all men as friends, for love and unity come hard when ye fix your gaze on otherness. … For each of the creatures is a sign of God, and it was by the grace of the Lord and His power that each did step into the world; therefore they are not strangers, but in the family; not aliens, but friends, and to be treated as such.”

Abdu’l-Bahá

Baha’i communities around the world are creating spaces to inspire and realize the betterment of the entire world through uplifting conversations and social action. Four core activities drive this work, inspiring and strengthening our community. These are devotional gatherings, children’s classes, and junior youth groups, and study circles.

While the choice to walk a spiritual path is made individually, the process is enhanced and strengthened when walked among others. Together, in a spirit of belonging, we give and receive love and support to one another, thus increasing our capacities as individuals and as communities.

Devotional Gatherings

Devotional gatherings honor the centrality of prayer to the life of the spirit. Prayer strengthens our relationship with God while also nurturing and sustaining us.

Prayer arises naturally and spontaneously in individuals and among believers. Additionally, offering regular patterns of devotional gatherings allows communities to release the unique capacities of collective prayer, meditation, and reflection.

Children’s Classes

Baha’is regard children as a community’s most precious treasure. It is incumbent upon parents to educate their children in such a way that nurtures their inherent spiritual capacities and virtues, such as kindness, patience, generosity, etc. Yet, the responsibility for spiritual education doesn’t rest solely on parents’ shoulders.

Junior Youth Groups

The Junior Youth Spiritual Empowerment Program was developed for children between the age of 12 to 15 years. This is a critical stage of development as children are growing more outward-looking and -endeavoring. Their awareness of the world around them is increasing. Similarly, so is their exposure to societal influences.

Study Circles

Baha’is gather in small groups with fellow well-wishers of society, such as friends, family, neighbors, and others, to study quotes directly from the Baha’i Writings. These quotes focus on specific topics such as “The Life of the Spirit” and “Walking Together on a Path of Service.”
